The headline given by the Palestinian news agency Wafa to this picture is Women's Day in Gaza when they come to say that female armament in Kalashnikov is a key characteristic of Palestinian women in the Gaza Strip. The picture that emerges in the newspaper tipp is clearly different: and in recent months we have written about a change that is apparently taking place among women in Gaza, and perhaps even a silent kind of female revolution. At Al-Azhar University, for example, the proportion of women is already about half of all students studying at the university and may even have passed half.
We also wrote about the first group of women in Gaza, who participate, with the encouragement of their parents, in a self-defense course, thereby adding to their personal safety at work, at home and on the street. We also found that in the newspaper posts we have promoted in the last six months among residents of the Gaza Strip, the percentage of women that our journalistic post might have interested them in is exactly fifty percent of all the pages the post has reached. Delicate these are but first signs which do not indicate with certainty a revolution which is already present, but the placid drawing of the woman marching with a Kalashnikov is very good for propaganda, but less good for describing social truth.
