The Headline

The IDF is fundamentally changing the concept of defending the State of Israel: A standard regular IDF division will be stationed opposite each country

Along a border, for example along the Jordanian border, there will be one command, from the company commander to the division, for ongoing security and in times of war

Despite the IDF's immediate need for mass mobilization of Israeli citizens from the ultra-Orthodox community, in order to correct and update the concept of border security, in times of war and in times of peace, the IDF is implementing the new defense structure on Israel's borders right now, in the hope that the ultra-Orthodox will fill the ranks, even if they do so with a delay that is dangerous to Israel's security. Alongside the new structure, according to which at each country's border, one regular division will be stationed along the entire length of the border, with one clear chain of command, and whose order of forces will be prepared for border defense in times of peace, and suitable for a rapid transition to war with the concentration of its forces and weapons; Alongside the new structure, Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir canceled the silence policy that on October 7 resulted in the IDF Air Force bases being empty of people (see our archived report at the beginning of the war about the "concentrated vacation" for the holiday); Major General Zamir also canceled the General Staff Division, most of whose soldiers left for home on October 6 without their weapons (out of fear that they would be seized from their hands); instead of the General Staff as an intervention force, the IDF Command and Combat Schools Division will be established as a rapid intervention force, and it will operate as a single divisional military body even during the war.

The Israeli Palestinian Post

In the absence of a state investigation committee in accordance with the law, the IDF can no longer abandon the border communities and the State of Israel while waiting for the fanatic government to admit its responsibility for the failure that brought Israel to the brink of destruction on October 7; the army can no longer delay fulfilling its duty to defend the State of Israel until it accepts the conclusions of the state committee, including a path for correcting and updating Israel's security concept (in the spirit of the Agranat Committee, for example); the IDF is therefore already realizing and implementing a new security concept as part of the lessons of the military failure of October 7, a failure that the IDF has already been investigating itself in recent months: opposite each country and along the entire border with it, a division will be stationed, for example the 162nd Division, which will be stationed on the Jordanian border; each border line will therefore have a single chain of command, starting from the IDF company through the brigade battalion to the division and command headquarters. As stated in the subtitle, Chief of Staff Zamir canceled the silence policy in the Air Force, according to which aircrew members would go on vacation concentrated on two holidays during the year; the policy of combat soldiers going home without their personal weapons, as happened among soldiers of the General Staff Division on the second holiday of Sukkot, the evening of October 7, was also discontinued.

The IDF has conclude that every border with a country and its entire length has its own character, mainly due to the political entity behind it, and the nature of the IDF's operations must be adapted to this essence, and mainly to unify the command of IDF forces stationed at the border. Based on the requirement that information and orders be shared along the length of a border from its beginning to its end, the IDF found that it was not right to divide responsibility for one border among several military units and several commands, even if ultimately, they all report to the command headquarters. In this sense, there will be an overlap in the new structure between the command and an entire regular division with a single command center, which is active 24/7 due to being a regular division.

The order of the divisions on the country's borders will be as follows:

Division 162, on the Jordanian border.

Division 80, on the Egyptian border.

Gaza Division, on the borders of the Gaza Strip Gaza.

Division 36 on the Syrian border.

Division 91, on the Lebanese border.

During times of calm, in ongoing security operations, all the usual characteristics of the IDF will be strictly observed, including frequent patrols, orderly and frequent inspection of the blurring zone, surveillance and observation, dawn alert, and ongoing reports.

In times of war, the division will concentrate its forces and equipment in preparation for an attack and will operate immediately according to approved plans; the reserve divisions will join the campaign upon completion of mobilization and will lead it as in each of Israel's wars.
