Hassan Nasrallah: Iran was involved in the Second Lebanon War

עיתון בין אויבים

A newspaper among enemies

Near the expiration of the deadline in September, which Hassan Nasrallah set for Israel, and according to which it must refrain from activating the Harish gas field without Lebanon's consent, the leader of Hezbollah in al-Mayadeen revealed this week that the commander of the Quds Force in the Revolutionary Guards, Qassem Soleimani, was present at the Hezbollah command post during the war in 2006, and helped the Lebanese manage it. Soleimani was at the time commander of the Quds Force, which is Iran's intervention force. Soleimani was killed by an American missile fourteen years later in January 2020 in Baghdad.
This testimony, when it is said near the ultimatum that Nasrallah set for Israel, has the meaning of a Lebanese threat in the sense of possible Iranian involvement even in a new conflict, if it develops in September, or at another time. Despite the contradiction, this testimony also has an internal meaning within Lebanon, in the sense that further damage to Lebanon's sovereignty, through the presence of the forces of a foreign country, Iran, is possible even now in the eyes of Hezbollah. Nasrallah makes it clear to Lebanon that Hezbollah's views regarding Israel override the Lebanese sovereignty of the current system of the regime, and he conveys this message in case the country wants to compromise with Israel regarding its maritime borders without the consent of Iran and Hezbollah. However, Iran may flex its position regarding Lebanon, to the extent that the agreement in Vienna is signed soon. In our estimation, Iran is using the threat of Hezbollah to hasten the US to sign the renewal of the nuclear agreement. Along with Nasrallah's attempts during the interview not to clarify the full meaning of his words, he explicitly says that the advice to possess naval missiles came from Iran. This military advice led in the Second Lebanon War to the launch of a naval missile that hit the Hanit navy ship, resulting in the death of four IDF soldiers, and the towing of Achi Hanit to Israel. The missile fired by Hezbollah was a Chinese missile manufactured in Iran
