The Israeli press is the third party responsible for the destruction of October 7, alongside the government, which is the first responsible, followed by the security establishment. In our assessment, sooner or later, profound changes will occur in the Israeli public structure, changes that will lead to the weakening of the partisan political system that brought Israel to the brink of destruction twice; these are the two times in which the Israeli press did not warn of the approaching destruction; in October 1973 and in October 2023. It is the responsibility of the press to warn. In our assessment, the main reasons for the journalistic failure are the socio-political friction, and not just professional journalistic friction, between Israeli journalists and the governmental systems. The Knesset. The government. The judiciary. To this end, the press must be transformed into a fourth authority in such a way that the discourse between it and the rest of the governmental systems will be purely journalistic and there will be a structural separation between journalists and partisan politicians. Even a government press bureau in this context is a harmful entity. The government should not give any qualification to journalists through a government certificate for which it sets conditions, and it should not organize the transfer of information. Of course, the government can do this as propaganda. The press should obtain journalistic material without government assistance and involvement. Therefore, we will establish the Public Press Office and also work to establish the Israeli press as the fourth authority.
