Our newspaper will establish, in partnership, which will be offered to five public universities, the Press Authority
The Press Authority will be an independent authority, a fourth, alongside the judicial, executive, and legislative authorities
The Basic Law: The Press, will position the press as a gatekeeper for the separation of powers, liberties, freedom, and equality
We will also establish the Public Press Bureau, which will eliminate the need for liaison with the Government Press Bureau
Editor's Commentary
Two periodical journalistic institutions failed, in two fateful wars for Israel. In 1973, the press did not report on the coming bloodbath, and in 2023, it did not report on the coming massacre. In both cases, there were clear signs of this. The heroism of the IDF gave Israel a second chance in both cases, although in both cases the army failed in a shameful way that allowed the murderous attacks. The arena is now becoming very complex, following the failures of the fanatic government, and the prolongation of the war after it had already been won. It is unclear whether in such a complex arena, in which two Nazi-Islamic powers are involved, Israel will have a third chance. Israel needs a professional, impartial press, with constitutional responsibility and authority, that will never allow the infiltration of partisan political elements into its ranks, and into the heart of journalistic work; that will create an impassable barrier between the work of spokespeople and journalism, and between public relations and journalism, and between businesses and journalism, and between disgraced criminals and journalistic work. And before the eyes of journalists there is always freedom, liberties, and the separation of powers, as forever enshrined in the Declaration of Independence. Such a press would have stopped as early as January 2023 the attempt of the current fanatic government to overthrow the democratic regime in Israel, an attempt that brought war on Israel, and brought it to the brink of destruction. A valuable and courageously thoughtful press would have stopped the fanatical tactic of placing the attempt to overthrow the regime, and to undermine the separation of powers, on the opposite side of freedom and liberties as a political position that stands on the other side of a barricade. Freedom, liberties, democracy, separation of powers and equality are not a political-partisan position, but the political position of every free person in a free world. The press failed in the rift between East and West, and allowed Ashkenazi attackers to prevent political recognition from the East and its culture, a culture that, before the resurrection of Israel, produced all the important books of Judaism; Ahad Ha'am warned his camp that this would happen if they despised the culture of the people of Israel, and the press did not hear him even though it listened, and even though Ahad Ha'am himself was a newspaper editor. The rift between East and West therefore now stands as the main driver of political processes, disrupting any possibility of maintaining a meaningful cultural life of values, and pulling Israel into the abyss, and will pull it further in the upcoming election campaign at the end of 2026; the press gave support to the falsifiers of Israeli culture, who have established, and are still establishing, a universal culture of half the public, in such a way that Israeli culture in prose and poetry still speaks to half the public, and is falsified in a way that would have stirred any journalist to action, but did not stir the press of the generation of the state's revival and its heirs. We will precede the process of changing the journalistic structure with the soon establishment of the Public Press Bureau; It will perform all the functions of a public press bureau, including issuing journalistic credentials, in collaboration with new supervised schools of journalism, which will be recognized by public universities. Journalism organizations will be able to choose to be a school or a newspaper. They will not be able to be both.
