עיתון בין אויבים

A newspaper among enemies

Suha Arafat and the American envoy, Prof. Bahabah, obtained Hamas's agreement to an unofficial ceasefire, which Israel and Hamas have already violated, to conceal it. The US will require an end to the war in Gaza, in exchange for an end to it in Iran and vice versa

A US-spin deal seeks an agreement with Iran, alongside the agreement it reached with Hamas; in exchange for the spin deal, Israel will commit to agreeing to an end to the war in Gaza as well. The American deal reached with Hamas is the result of the moves of the Palestinian intellectual Prof. Bishara Bahabah, the US envoy for ceasefire negotiations, and of Suha, Yasser Arafat's wife, who now lives in Cyprus. According to the ceasefire, it will unofficially exist until the end of the war between Israel and Iran. Israel and Hamas are acting towards the unofficial ceasefire in accordance with their own interests and are concealing it. Military Israel made it clear through the words of the IDF spokesman yesterday that the war in Gaza continues, and that the IDF continues to strike Hamas, and in response, Hamas launched two rockets yesterday into open areas in communities around Gaza (one of which did not cross the fence). Neither side admits that it agreed to the ceasefire. An important Arab source said that Hamas estimates that the axis of which it was a part, headed by Iran, has already been defeated, and therefore it must choose the Saudi/Egyptian/Jordanian/Emirati axis alongside the Palestinian Authority; this estimate embodies an assessment that the Turkish axis is not ready now to fill the place of the Iranian axis.

The calming of the flames of the Israeli Palestinian war is also being expressed in the West Bank, where the IDF has imposed a blockade on 900 Palestinian communities, closing them off with gates (see the photo for an example of a gate). The move is intended to prevent terrorism while Israel is busy in Iran, but also to prevent Jewish settlers from setting the area on fire. Despite the US's ongoing efforts to bring Iran to the nuclear negotiation table, it is possible that a deterioration in the Israel-Iran war will change the tables and force the US to intervene militarily in Iran. In our assessment, even in such a reality, the US will strive to end the war in the Middle East with an agreement, hence the leverage it will have over Israel in any case, and hence the importance of the agreement with Hamas. Trump said tonight that if Iran attacks the US, the power of the US military will fall on it in an unprecedented way, but he added that "we could easily reach an agreement between Iran and Israel and end the "This bloody conflict."

The essence of the American move is, in our assessment, this: The US will condition its vital position on ending the war in Iran, whether through negotiations or military intervention, on Israel's retroactive agreement to end the war in the Gaza Strip, in Iran, and in every other conflict zone in the Middle East – since Iran launched a war of annihilation against Israel on October 7, 2023 (see today in the Diary section our main headline on October 8, 2023, the only one in the world with its exact wording: "Iran launched a war against Israel using its arm in Gaza, Israel's south is bleeding").

The Arab source believes that in this context, the chance of establishing an international conference led by the US, to end the conflict in the Middle East, may be like the chance of establishing the Madrid Conference, which was established despite many doubts, after the Gulf War. It is possible that the US is preparing levers against Israel for this move as well. If a similar conference The Madrid conference may have as its infrastructure the agreement between Biden and Saudi Arabia, which we reported on exclusively here, according to which the Palestinians will receive less of a state, but more of an authority.
