A political list of Palestinian women will run in the West Bank municipal elections on Saturday. The list will run at Beit Umar, in the Hebron sub-district, with a population of about 14,000. There were problems they say, and 4 women even retired under family pressure, but all the other women on the list are determined to take the election in Beit Umar and lead it to a new future.
This female political list is in addition to the manifestations of female awakening in the West Bank and Gaza Strip that we have previously reported on. If they win the election, the women in Beit Umar will pave the way for further female involvement in Palestinian politics, although even today there is active female involvement in Palestinian politics.
